JICA supports Nghe An with upgrading Northern Irrigation System

On March 22nd, 2024, the Inauguration Ceremony of the “Northern Nghe An Irrigation System Upgrading Project” was held in Do Luong district, Nghe An province.
 
The project was implemented during the period of 2013-2023, with the loan provided by JICA worth roughly 3,650 billion VND at the time of the Loan Agreement signing. Through the Project, the northern Nghe An irrigation system in 4 districts of Do Luong, Dien Chau, Yen Thanh and Quynh Luu under the Project’s Component 1 has been upgraded, accommodating the total irrigation area of 28,801 ha, supplying water for domestic, livestock, industry, and serving other purposes. The training academy of the Vietnam Water Resources Academy in Thach That district, Hanoi built under the Project’s Component 2 has been contributing to strengthening the capacity of technical and research staffs in irrigation management nationwide.
 
The Project has also helped to increase the agricultural cultivation area and productivity, improve the inundation and environment, reduce the drought impacts, therefore enhancing the living standards of the people in the project area.
 
The Project Inauguration Ceremony is one of the important events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam (2023). At the Ceremony, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded JICA with the Certificate of Appreciation for JICA’s support and contribution to Vietnam agriculture and rural development.
