With a favorable geographical position for circulating goods to countries around the world and about 22 million labors in agriculture, including elite and diligent young people, Vietnam agriculture has great potential for development, not just domestically but also globally. In 2021, Vietnam's agricultural exports reached a high beyond expectation of 48.6 billion USD.​

Clearly aware that the agricultural sector plays a backbone role in the Vietnamese economy, I wish to promote  more investment and trade cooperation with Japan in agriculture, forestry and fishery. Japan is a country who has high-tech agriculture of world's leading class and increasingly deep ties with Vietnam.

We highly appreciates the relationship with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) in Vietnam during the past years. Over the past 50 years, the overall relationship between Vietnam and Japan has developed deeply and effectively in many fields and has been raised to new heights since the two countries became a strategic partnership.

In the period from 2015 to 2019, Vietnam's agricultural industry has received 10 Japanese ODA projects deployed in many localities, making great contributions to the development and restructuring of Vietnam's agricultural industry.

In the period from 2020 to 2024, the two sides have been promoting cooperation activities to support Vietnam in perfecting policies and institutions for agricultural development in Vietnam, deploying and replicating the cooperative model in other regions. cooperation in the field of disaster reduction.

With the desire to strengthen the cooperation relationship with Japan, we have built Agricultural Coordination Working Groups with members being Departments and Departments under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development located at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Set.

Besides, in order to solve difficulties for Japanese companies currently working and investing in Vietnam, as well as answering questions for companies that are intending to invest in Vietnam, on the basis of In cooperation with JICA, ABJD (Agri Business Japan Desk) was established and located at the office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. We have a Japanese expert in charge of related issues at ABJD.

In order to build a sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture, forestry and fishery, high-tech agriculture applying information technology, organic agriculture applying various types of renewable energy... Government of Vietnam is completing the policy system including many preferential policies to encourage investment in the agricultural sector. Interested investors can contact ABJD for assistance.

Vietnam's agriculture is in the process of strong restructuring towards increasing added value and sustainable development. In addition to the achieved results, Vietnam's agriculture is facing many challenges, requiring constant institutional reform, scientific and technological development and improvement of qualifications.

In this development process, Vietnam's agricultural industry always wishes to accompany and receive the support of international donors and partners to cooperate in scientific and technological research, promote the application of science and technology. technical progress in agricultural production.

Japan is a huge export market of Vietnam, the fourth largest trading partner of Vietnam, with import-export turnover in the first nine months of 2021 reaching 31 billion USD. In agricultural cooperation, Japan is currently the fourth largest partner of Vietnam's agriculture, with a turnover of $3.4 billion in 2021, of which Vietnam has a trade surplus of more than $2.8 billion. In the first 10 months of 2021, exports of the agro-forestry-fishery group continued to grow by more than 10% in the Japanese market despite the pandemic.

Thanks to the promotion of bilateral trade and FDI investment from Japan into Vietnam, Vietnam's agricultural industry can absorb advanced Japanese technologies such as seed technology, soil nutrient technology, process farming and especially advanced food preservation and processing technology from Japan.

In contrast, Vietnam has strengths with many typical products of the tropics such as fruits and high-quality aquatic products, full of potential for Japanese enterprises to export equipment and high technology to serve. agricultural production, input materials for the cultivation and animal husbandry industries.

With the support of JICA, Department of International Cooperation - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the village (ICD/MARD) has agreed to establish ABJD (Agribusiness Japan Desk) to promote private investment in the agricultural sector.

ABJD is expected to cooperate with relevant agencies to organize networking events, seminars, roundtables... to widely inform about the current status and attractiveness of Vietnam's agriculture.

Here we have Japanese experts with extensive experience in both agriculture and rural development issues and JICA's public-private partnership supporting ABJD's activities.
