Green Carbon Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo) is involved in businesses such as agricultural and environmental carbon credit creation and sales, and Kanematsu Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) is a trading company that engages in businesses such as ICT solutions, electronics/devices, and food. The two companies have signed a partnership agreement targeting the Japanese and Vietnamese markets to jointly promote the creation of carbon credits by reducing methane in rice fields and the sale of rice that contributes to reducing methane (environmentally friendly rice).
Green Carbon works with farmers across Japan to reduce methane in rice fields and turn the reduction into J-credits. In Japan, we have obtained Japan's first and largest J-Credit certification for rice fields, and we plan to generate tens of thousands of tons of credits overseas this fiscal year.
Kanematsu has designated "agriculture and food GX" as one of the green transformations (GX) focus areas in the main measures of the three-year medium-term management plan that started in April 2024. In the food supply chain that Kanematsu is deeply involved in, we aim to contribute to decarbonization and resource circulation (circular economy) through the creation and supply of food with low environmental impact, and to build a sustainable supply chain.
Through this collaboration, the strengths of both companies will be combined to strengthen the incentive return model for farmers who have worked to extend the drying period of wet rice cultivation, and to build a supply chain that will distribute the rice produced by farmers as environmentally friendly rice.
By doing this, we will be able to respond to the growing sustainability-consciousness of our business partners and consumers, promoting the spread of environmentally friendly rice, and ultimately contributing to decarbonization and improved sustainability of agricultural and food supply chains.
