Fermented Baby Milk, CALPIS: The founder of CALPIS, Kaiun Mishima, first discovered cultured milk during a trip to Mongolia. Originally, Mishima created a product containing lactic acid bacteria, called Daigomi, made from skimmed milk and lactic acid bacteria. However, this product did not sell well. One day, Kataoka mixed Daigomi and sugar in a test tube and left it for several days, marking the birth of the current CALPIS.
