On February 29, 2024, the project team of “Alternate Wetting and Drying Technology for Climate Compatible Rice Cultivation in Viet Nam” of Green Carbon Japan company visited and worked at the INTAD Rice Drying and Milling Factory of TH Group in Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province.
The factory consumes rice for Nghe An farmers and creates a source of high quality goods for export. Currently the factory is processing about 20,000 tons of rice per year.
Nghe An farmers cultivate rice 2 crops per year, so the company buys about 10,000 tons of rice per crop season. TH is buying locally produced rice, but they have no specific contract with farmers. Therefore, ABJD proposed to buy AWD rice as carbon neutral product.
TH is currently purchasing rice at market price, but after ABJD inquired about the potential for a premium on the purchasing price for AWD rice as a carbon-neutral product and presented possible benefits for the company, they agreed to set a higher price for AWD rice.
TH said they can designate traders to buy our project rice. TH can purchase as much as 10,000 tons for May harvest, so the project team will maintain contact with TH Rice for the transaction.
